U-20 WEEKEND RECAP

Saturday, June 26- ADIRONDACK LYNX-0   WESTERN MASS MUTINY -2

CHICOPEE, MA- The Western Mass Mutiny U20 team defeated the Adirondack Lynx 2-0 in its inaugural WPSL-20 match. The match was played prior to the senior team game at Chicopee Comprehensive High School. Merissa Phipps (Monson, MA) scored the first ever goal for the 20’s in the 43rd minute. Phipps collected a loose ball in the Lynx penalty area and blasted into the right-side netting. Bryony Parker from American International College sent a one-touch pass that sent Taylor Hartmann (Agawam, MA) alone on goal. Hartmann slotted the ball in the net at the 53 minute mark. Teammates on this day, Parker (AIC) and Hartmann (UMASS-Lowell) are rivals in the Northeast-10 Conference of the NCAA Division II. Emersyn Pullan (Northampton, MA) and Brie Butcher (East Longmeadow, MA) combined for the shutout.

Sunday, June 27- WESTERN MASS MUTINY-8   GRANITE FC-0

 

NORTHPORT, ME- It took the Western Mass Mutiny U20 team 15 seconds to tell the New hampshire Granite that they would be in for a long afternoon. Brittanie McGregor (Ludlow, MA) took an Amanda Mundorf (Westfield, MA) pass from just behind the penalty stripe and one-timed the shot after a terrific buildup on the play. Mundorf turned goal scorer nine minutes later after knocking in a cross from Kelly Rosenbeck (Wilbraham, MA). McGregor reunited acquaintances with former Ludlow Lions teammate Kayley Miller for the third Mutiny goal as Miller clinically finished McGregor’s cross into the area. Miller, a 4-time All-Western Mass selection plays college soccer at Monmouth University.

Sunday, June 27- WESTERN MASS MUTINY-4   MAINE TIDE- 0

 

NORTHPORT, ME – The Mutiny 20’s blanked the Maine Tide 4-0 as the Mutiny played the second of a doubleheader. The second match was scheduled to alleviate travel concerns, but the Mutiny showed no ill-affects from its third game in two days. Merissa Phipps (Monson, MA), AIC forward Bryony Parker and Amanda Mundorf (Westfield, MA) and Kennedy Nickerson (East Lyme, CT) tallied goals for the Mutiny. Emerson Pullan (Northampton, MA) made 5 saves for the shutout. The UMASS-bound goalkeeper stopped a point blank shot in the 89th minute to preserve the clean sheet.

 “I am ecstatic at the way they played this weekend. Their movement was great and it is awesome to have players that are pro-active on the field”, stated Head Coach Lauren Molinaro. “This is a special group of kids. It is about time that there is a place for the best talent to play together,” added GM Steve Robitaille. The victory versus Maine made the Mutiny 3-0 to start the U20 campaign; scoring 14 goals and suffering none on the 3-game weekend.
