The New England Mutiny host the Connecticut Fusion in a battle of the only remaining undefeated teams in the East Conference of United Women's Soccer. The Fusion (3-0) will feature several familiar faces as former Mutiny players will return to batte against their former club along with top collegiate and international stars. Connecticut comes off an impressive performance defeating the Rochester Lancers 4-0 last Friday. The Fusion left no doubt in this one scoring three goals in the game's first 12 minutes. The Muitny (2-0), coming off a bye week, defeated the Long Island Rough Riders on May 18th in front of a capacity crowd at Lusitano Stadium. Kate Howarth (Grand Blanc, MI) tallied a hat-trick in the match after Vermont native Breukelen Woodard entered the record books by scoring the first-ever goal at Lusitano Stadium, New England's only soccer-specific stadium.
The Fusion roster is composed of several players that used to play for the home side, including Brenna Brown - a first-team All-UWS selection in 2017; Chanel Johnson - who also played with the NWSL's Boston Breakers; Stephanie Santos - a member of the Portuguese National Team, Kylee McIntosh and Tori Sousa - key contributors in the Mutiny's Final four appearance in 2013. Alongside several top collegiate players, the Fusion pose the stiffest test to date for the Mutiny- celebrating its 20th season in 2019.
"The good news is that we are familiar with many of the players on Connecticut and we know what they can do. The bad news is that we know what they can do", stated Mutiny Managing Director Joe Ferrara. "We are hoping that the crowd that showed up last match will once again provide the energy and atmosphere in what is surely to be a great match", added Ferrara.
Kickoff is set for 7:00pm on Saturday at Lusitano Stadium with the bar and concessions opening at 6:00pm. Tickets may be purchased at the gate or online HERE for expedited entry.
