New England Mutiny midfielder Julia Weithofer has signed a contract with Italian club Roma for the 2017-18 season. The East Longmeadow native will don the iconic "Giallorossi" (Yellows and Reds) colors of Roma worn by stars such as Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi and Bruno Conti. Weithofer, a four-year starter for the University of Massachusetts, has played for the Mutiny for four seasons.
"I have always wanted to live in Italy and now that I'm here I am happy to be in the beautiful city of Rome and do what I love: playing soccer. I am really lucky and excited to be a part of this team," said Weithofer.
"Julia is the 9th player from United Women's Soccer (UWS) to sign with an International club. We wish her all the best on her season and hope to have her available for a playoff run with the Mutiny, once her commitment to the Italian giant is complete," stated Mutiny owner Joe Ferrara.
In her debut this past Sunday, Weithofer had an immediate impact in the midfield including an assist in a 4-0 victory.
