MUTINY FORMS U-20 TEAM

New Youth Development League Debuts This Summer

SPRINGFIELD, MA (04/29/10) - The New England Mutiny of the East Conference of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) announced today the creation of a Under-20 squad - a new team designed as a graduating youth team for elite players from the ages of 17-20. This U-20 team will be a strong resource to utilize for these players, as they advance beyond the traditional youth bracket to the senior professional & amateur development leagues and NCAA.

The U-20 League will debut this summer with teams representing some of the strongest youth clubs in the region and stalwart WPSL organizations. Teams such as the Long Island Fury (parent club to Albertson Fury S.C.), Stars of Massachusetts, New Hampshire Seacoast, New England Mutiny, Maine Tide and Adirondack Lynx will compete against each other in the Northeast Division.

“The Mutiny is excited to directly support the efforts with youth development in the area, and the U-20’s will further connect our players to our senior team and at the Women’s Professional Soccer level,” said New England Mutiny owner Joe Ferrara. “This will also provide the club with opportunities to further develop a larger pool of players that also play within the collegiate ranks, so we can monitor and prepare their development for higher levels of the game.

“Creating a U-20 team will provide our senior team with more depth, and more playing opportunities for our players. The U-20 team will be the right resource for a true reserve team.”

Tryouts for the Mutiny U-20 team will be held at 6:00 p.m. on May 11th at American International College in Springfield, MA. If you are an interested player who can not attend, please e-mail your player information to info@mutinysoccer.com.

The league is designed to cater to the top of the youth ranks in the United States for players aspiring to play professionally and to serve as a reserve division for the Women’s Premier Soccer League. WPSL teams will now be able to add Under-20 teams to expand their development goals as well as their player pool for the senior team. The WPSL U-20 season will run from June to late July.
