MUTINY HIT ROAD FOR FIRST OF FOUR AWAY GAMES
New England travels to Rochester this Saturday to face the formidable WNY Flash

SPRINGFIELD, MA (06/07/12) - The New England Mutiny of WPSL Elite will hit the road for the first of four straight road matches this Saturday, June 9th, taking on the Western New York Flash at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY (7:00 PM kick-off). The Flash (1-2-1 WPSL Elite) will be a formidable opponent for the Mutiny (2-1-1 WPSL Elite), who currently stand in fourth place in the league - three points ahead of Western New York in fifth place.

The Flash have had a more difficult schedule so far to start the 2012 WPSL Elite season, drawing 0-0 with the New York Fury (3-1-1 WPSL Elite) last Sunday at Hofstra University while dropping a 3-2 loss on the road to league leaders Boston (5-1-0 WPSL Elite) on May 26th. In New England's season opener on May 12th, the Mutiny would surrender three early goals en route to a 5-1 defeat to the Fury at home. The Mutiny have yet to face Boston, but will conclude this road trip on Weds., June 20th with a 7:00 PM kick-off at the Breakers.

Western New York is on a mission this season to complete the most auspicious of "trebles." With a 13-2-3 regular season record last year in Women's Professional Soccer (WPS), the Flash earned the regular season title and the right to host the WPS Championship. On August 27th, Western New York capped their inaugural season in WPS by winning the 2011 Championship title 1-1 (5-4) in a penalty kick shootout over Philadelphia. In 2010, the Flash were W-League Champions.

The team is coached by Aaran Lines, who has led the club for all of its three years in existence. In 2009, he was hired as the Buffalo Flash's head coach where he led his side to an impressive 10-3-3 record and a trip to the second round of the playoffs. In only his second year of the league, Lines led the squad to an undefeated season and the W-League Championship, defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps by a 3-1 score. Lines was named the 2010 Coach of the Year after the clubs' outstanding season.

Western New York's offense will be led by Spanish international Adriana Santamaria Martin, who has scored four of the Flash's six goals scored this season including a hat-trick in their season-opening 4-1 win over F.C. Indiana (0-5-0 WPSL Elite). The defense will be led by veteran goalkeeper Alison Lipsher, who the Mutiny know well from her days in the WPSL when she played for Boston Aztec. Except for the two goals allowed vs. Boston, the WNY defense has been staunch, allowing only four goals in their other four matches.

Home Page New England will need to build off of their 2-1 win on June 2nd over Philadelphia if the team is expected to get a positive result on the road. While holding the run of play, it took the Mutiny until the 82nd minute and Becca Mays' game-winning goal (who played alongside Lipsher for Aztec in their 2010 WPSL Championship season) to get the winning verdict over the Fever. The win was the first for Chris Legates, who was named interim Head Coach last week.

New England's offense will be led by the trio of Tiya Gallegos, Kate Howarth and Riley Houle. Gallegos leads the team in goals (4) & points scored (8), while Howarth and Houle are tied for the team lead in assists (3) while each have added a goal to the score sheet as well. The Mutiny defense has yet to fully gel (10 goals allowed in five matches). Yet, University of Miami goalkeeper Vikki Alonzo did notch her first win of the season vs. Philadelphia, making three saves in her defense's best showing of the season.

Fans who can't make the trip to Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester will be able to watch the New England-Western New York online.
