SEWELL, NJ (05/20/12) - Two more goals from former Boston University star Tiya Gallegos vs. the Philadelphia Fever (0-0-1 WPSL Elite) were not good enough for the New England Mutiny (1-1-1 WPSL Elite) to complete a victorious two-game weekend. The visitors would allow a late Fever goal by Myriam Bouchard to salvage the 2-2 draw for the hosts, who were playing their first WPSL Elite match this season.

New England defeated the Chesapeake Charge by a 4-2 score on Saturday night at home before making the 5-hour trip south on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Mutiny defense appears to still be shaking off the early season rust & jitters in WPSL Elite, as they have now conceded nine goals in three matches.

Yet, it was Mutiny forward Kate Howarth who once again continued her bright start to 2012, testing former Wisconsin goalkeeper Michele Dalton in the 17th minute. However, New England would surrender the first goal a minute later as Philadelphia's Dylan Jordan broke in off the right flank and put her shot past Mutiny keeper Vikki Alonzo for the 1-0 lead.

The home team would take the confidence from that goal and carry the run of play for the next twenty minutes of the half. Dalton (the 2009 WPSL Pacific Conference Goalkeeper of the Year) would than have to make a pair of saves against Riley Houle & Vicki DiMartino in the 36th & 38th minutes, respectively.

Gallegos would tie the match at 1-1 in the 42nd minute off an assist from Houle, her second helper of the weekend. But the visitors' defense would be tested again before halftime, as Emily Grant's scoring opportunity for the Fever would go for naught.

Both sides would make no changes as they took the pitch in the second half. In the 65th minute, Gallegos would notch her team-leading fourth goal (in three games) as she capitalized off a deflection from a DiMartino shot to put New England up by a 2-1 score.

The possibility of getting the win and three points in what will be a tight WPSL Elite race this season loomed larger for the Mutiny as the 80th minute passed by on the scoreboard. However, Philadelphia would work for the 2-2 draw as Bouchard would score off a header from a corner kick in the 81st minute.
